==Early life and amateur career== Born and raised in [[San Francisco|San Francisco, California]], Miller was invited to join the [[Olympic Club]] in 1963 as a Junior Golf Section member, and became the top player on its junior team. He won the San Francisco city junior title in 1963 at age 16, and the following year won the 1964 [[U.S. Junior Amateur]]. After graduation from [[Abraham Lincoln High School (San Francisco)|Abraham Lincoln High School]] in 1965,<ref name=jmwja>{{cite web|url=http://www.golf.com/tour-and-news/abraham-lincoln-high-school-golf-team-reunion|publisher=Golf.com |title=Johnny Miller was just another golfer at Abraham Lincoln High School|last=Garrity|first=John|date=June 12, 2012|access-date=January 6, 2013}}</ref> he enrolled at [[Brigham Young University]] in [[Provo, Utah]]. In the spring of his freshman year of college, Miller qualified for the [[1966 U.S. Open (golf)|1966 U.S. Open]] at the [[Olympic Club]].
