A special edition Defender Works V8, with {{convert|400|bhp|kW|0|abbr=on}}, was announced in January 2018.<ref name="works2018">{{cite web|url=https://www.topgear.com/car-news/british/meet-the-most-powerful-and-fastest-land-rover-defender-works-v8|title=Land Rover reveals 400bhp Defender Works V8|date=2018-01-17|website=Top Gear|access-date=2018-06-03}}</ref> Until 2020, the Defender was last sold in North America in 1997, after which safety regulations prohibited its sale.

An all-new [[Land Rover Defender (L663)|2020 Land Rover Defender]] made its global debut in September 2019 and was initially offered with two wheelbase options. This new model, which shares no components or technology with its predecessor, has an aluminium [[monocoque]] body.
