==Early life== Bridges was born in [[San Leandro, California]], to Harriet Evelyn (nΓ©e Brown) Bridges (1893β1950) and Lloyd Vernet Bridges Sr. (1887β1962), who was involved in the California hotel business and once owned a movie theater.<ref name=.oco>{{cite book| title=Current biography yearbook| volume=51| publisher=H. W. Wilson Co.| year=1990| page=90}}</ref> His parents were both from [[Kansas]]; both were of almost entirely [[English American|English ancestry]]. Bridges was a direct descendant of William Bridges, who arrived in New England in 1623 aboard the ship "[[Little James]]."<ref>Filby, P.
