==Early life and education==
Capps was born Lois Ragnhild Grimsrud in [[Ladysmith, Wisconsin]], the daughter of Solveig Magdalene (née Gullixson) and Rev. Jurgen Milton Grimsrud, a [[Lutheranism|Lutheran]] minister. She was educated at [[Pacific Lutheran University]] with a bachelor's degree in [[nursing]].
