After her parents divorced in 1945, Conway and her younger brother, Blair Savage (1941β2022), were raised by their mother. Conway became fascinated by [[astronomy]] (building a {{convert|6|in|mm|adj=on}} [[Reflecting telescope|reflector telescope]] one summer) and did well in math and science in school.<ref name="conI"/> After graduating from [[White Plains High School]] in 1955, Conway entered the [[Massachusetts Institute of Technology]] and began an attempted [[gender transition]] in 1957.
