Katie Minami, a cheerful but shy eighth-grader, finds a strange cocoa mug that summons Mirmo, a mischievous love fairy. Mirmo reveals he is a runaway prince avoiding marriage to Princess Rima, which has caused bounty hunters and his brother Mulu to chase after him. Their antics attract the attention of the bumbling Warumo Gang, whose careless experiments with time magic accidentally freeze the fairy world. Mirmo and his friends must perform an ancient ritual involving a magical door and a time bird to restore balance.

A new threat emerges when Darkman, a being born from negative emotions, begins manipulating people through transfer student Saori. Mirmo and his allies develop special combined magic techniques to counter this threat. After repeated battles, they finally defeat Darkman, though the victory temporarily severs the connection between worlds until their shared bonds repair the rift.

The group later assists Tako, a robotic octopus, in gathering seven emotion-based crystals needed to save his homeland. Overcoming various challenges, they help Tako harness the crystals' power. Meanwhile, Katie's romantic life becomes complicated when Koichi develops feelings for her while Haruka, the childhood friend of Katie's crush Dylan, enters their lives. After several misunderstandings, Dylan confesses his feelings to Katie. As Mirmo faces expulsion from the human world, an accident causes him to lose his memories and revert to rabbit form until Katie's intervention breaks the curse.
