==Early life==
Sayeed was born on 12 January 1936, in [[Bijbehara]], [[Anantnag district]], then part of the [[princely state]] of [[Jammu and Kashmir (princely state)|Jammu and Kashmir]], British India, into a Kashmiri Shia Muslim clerical family.
