==History== The name comes from the estate of Archibald Murray who built Murrayfield House for himself in 1735 on the south-facing slopes over the area.<ref>Buildings of Scotland: Edinburgh by Gifford, McWilliam and Walker</ref> Archibald Murray bought the land from Nisbet of Dean in 1733; it was previously Nisbet's Park.<ref name=":0">{{Cite web|url=http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/downloads/file/1102/west_murrayfield_conservation_area_character_appraisal|title=West Murrayfield Conservation Area Character Appraisal|date=2008|website=Edinburgh City Council|access-date=18 August 2019}}</ref> [[Alexander Murray, Lord Henderland]] was born here the year after its construction. In some early records, the name appears as "Murray's Field". Much of the Murrayfield area was semi-rural up until the early 19th century.
