==Etymology==
The word ''palindrome'' was introduced by English poet and writer [[Henry Peacham (born 1578)|Henry Peacham]] in 1638.<ref name="p. 123"/> It is derived from the Greek roots {{lang|grc|πάλιν}} 'again' and {{lang|grc|δρóμος}} 'way, direction'; a different word is used in Greek, καρκινικός 'carcinic' ({{lit|crab-like}}) to refer to letter-by-letter reversible writing.<ref name="Triantaphylides Dictionary"/><ref name="Greece 1814, p. 85"/>
