==Early life==

Percy Storkey was educated at [[Napier Boys' High School]], where he was [[Dux#Education|dux]] of the school in his final year, and later [[Victoria University of Wellington|Victoria College]] in [[Wellington]],<ref name=Derkenne>{{cite AuDB |last=Derkenne |first=Warren |title=Storkey, Percy Valentine (1893–1969) |id2=storkey-percy-valentine-8687 |access-date=29 March 2013}}</ref> where he studied fine arts.{{sfn|Wigmore|1986|pp=116–117}} As a teenager, Storkey served in the [[Territorial Force (New Zealand)|Territorial Force]] as an infantryman with the [[Wellington Infantry Regiment (NZEF)|Wellington Regiment]], eventually achieving the rank of [[colour sergeant]] after five years of service.{{sfn|Gliddon|2013|p=149}}{{sfn|Wigmore|1986|pp=116–117}}

In around 1911 or 1912, Storkey moved to [[Sydney]] in Australia and worked as a clerk for a steamship company. Within a year he was on the administrative staff at the  [[University of Sydney]].
