The name of Port Said first appeared in 1855. It was chosen by an international committee composed of [[United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland|the UK]], [[Second French Empire|France]], the [[Russian Empire]], [[Austrian Empire|Austria]], [[Spain]] and [[Kingdom of Sardinia-Piedmont|Piedmont]].
