== Biography ==

Vasile was born in [[Sibiu]] in 1942, and was raised in the [[Catholic Church|Roman Catholic]] faith.<ref>{{cite web|first=Sorin|last= Ghica|url=http://adevarul.ro/news/eveniment/cel-mai-dramatic-moment-mandatul-depremier-radu-vasile-1_51d415b7c7b855ff56f91552/index.html |title=Cel mai dramatic moment din mandatul de premier al lui Radu Vasile|newspaper=[[Adevărul]]|date= July 3, 2013| access-date= June 13, 2020|language=ro}}</ref> In 1967, he graduated from the Faculty of History at the [[University of Bucharest]]. For political reasons (his father having been a political prisoner, a lawyer, deceased in 1986), he was barred access to higher education immediately after graduating school.{{citation needed|date=July 2013}} In 1971, he became a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Economic History at the [[Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies]] (ASE). In 1977, he obtained a Ph.D. in Economics from the same institution of higher education and in 1978 he became a lecturer at this institution.

After the [[Romanian Revolution]] of 1989, Vasile was elected (with student  support){{Citation needed|date=August 2010}} Vice Dean of the Faculty of Commerce at ASE, a position he held until 1992. After 1990, he took refresher studies in European Integration at [[Thessaloniki]], [[Greece]] and [[Munich]], [[Germany]]. In 1994, he became a professor at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Sciences (ASE).
