==Early life==
Bonner grew up in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, graduating from St. Louis Park High School in 1960. He earned a J.D. degree from [[Stanford University Law School]] in 1967. In 1968 he joined the [[U.S. Marine Corps]], was a Judge Advocate, including a tour in Vietnam.
