==Biography== He was born in [[Frauental an der Laßnitz]], [[Styria]], Austria<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://mahlerfoundation.org//mahler/personen-2/fuchs-robert-1847-1927|title = Robert Fuchs (1847-1927)|date = 6 January 2015}}</ref> in 1847. He studied at the Vienna Conservatory with [[Felix Otto Dessoff]] and [[Joseph Hellmesberger, Sr.|Joseph Hellmesberger]] among others. He eventually secured a teaching position there and was appointed Professor of [[music theory]] in 1875. He retained the position until 1912. He died in Vienna in 1927. He was the youngest brother of [[Johann Nepomuk Fuchs (composer)|Johann Nepomuk Fuchs]],<ref name=Grove/> who was also a composer and an opera [[conducting|conductor]].
