==Early life and education==
Eames was born in 1936, the son of a [[Methodism|Methodist]] minister. His early years were spent in [[Larne]], with the family later moving to [[Belfast]]. During his undergraduate course at Queen's, one of his philosophy lecturers was his future [[Roman Catholic]] counterpart, [[Cahal Daly]].
