== Early life and education == Born in [[Boston]] in the [[Province of Massachusetts Bay]], to [[Samuel Dexter (Massachusetts politician)|Samuel Dexter]], a Massachusetts politician and Hannah (Sigourney) Dexter. He was the grandson of [[Samuel Dexter (minister)|Samuel Dexter]], the fourth minister of [[Dedham, Massachusetts|Dedham]].
