==Name== The name "Soho" first appears in the 17th century. The name is derived from a former hunting cry.<ref name=sol33-34_20-26/> [[James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth]], used "soho" as a rallying call for his men at the [[Battle of Sedgemoor]] on 6 July 1685, half a century after the name was first used for this area of London.{{sfn|Room|1983|p=113}}{{sfn|Mee|2014|p=233}} The Soho name has been reused by other entertainment and restaurant districts such as [[SoHo, Hong Kong]], which derives its name from being located south of [[Hollywood Road]],<ref>{{cite web|url= https://www.gohk.gov.hk/en/spots/spot_detail.php?spot=SoHo|title=SoHo|access-date=22 July 2024}}</ref> and the cultural and commercial area of [[:es:Soho (Málaga)|Soho]] in [[Málaga]], Spain.<ref>{{cite news|url=https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2015/jul/25/malaga-holiday-guide-spain-best-hotels-bars-restaurants|title=Málaga holiday guide: what to see plus the best bars, hotels and restaurants|newspaper=The Guardian|date=25 July 2015|access-date=6 January 2018}}</ref> The New York City neighbourhood of [[SoHo, Manhattan]], gets its name from its location south of [[Houston Street (Manhattan)|Houston Street]], but is also a reference to London's Soho.<ref name=aia>{{cite aia5|page=111}}</ref> The [[Pittsburgh]] neighbourhood of [[Uptown Pittsburgh|Uptown]] was also formerly called Soho, most likely having been named by its founder James Tustin after the London district, though it may refer to [[Soho, West Midlands]].<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.pghcitypaper.com/pittsburgh/pittsburgh-has-a-neighborhood-named-soho-directly-across-the-birmingham-bridge-my-mother-was-raised-there-when-it-was-predominantly-a-rus/Content?oid=1338496|title=Pittsburgh has a neighborhood named "Soho," directly across the Birmingham Bridge.
