==History== Spangle was first settled in 1872 by William Spangle, an Illinois Civil War veteran who served in the army of General Tecumseh Sherman. He bought out the claim of an earlier squatter and established a stage station, a post office, and a blacksmith shop. The townsite was platted in 1879.<ref name=majors>{{Cite book| last = Majors | first = Harry M. | title = Exploring Washington | publisher = Van Winkle Publishing Co | year = 1975 | page = 111 |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=CoWrPQAACAAJ| isbn = 978-0-918664-00-6}}</ref> It was [[municipal incorporation|incorporated]] in 1888.<ref name="MRSC" />
