==Etymology== The name ''tadpole'' is from [[Middle English]] ''{{lang|enm|taddepol}}'', made up of the elements ''{{lang|enm|tadde}}'', '[[toad]]', and ''{{lang|enm|pol}}'', '[[head]]' (modern English ''[[poll (livestock)|poll]]'').
