==History== Tembec was founded in 1973 by Frank Dottori in the town of [[Témiscaming, Quebec|Témiscaming]], [[Quebec]], following efforts by former employees and Temiscaming residents to save their jobs and save their town's economy.<ref>{{cite news |last1=Kuitenbrouwer |first1=Peter |title=In life after Tembec Inc, Frank Dottori finds new passion with Fadco Consulting Inc and White River Forest Products Ltd |url=https://financialpost.com/executive/in-life-after-tembec-inc-frank-dottori-finds-new-passion |accessdate=16 November 2020 |publisher=Financial Post |date=13 March 2015}}</ref> They organized to create a company through an unprecedented relationship among entrepreneurs, unionized employees, the community and several levels of government. In 1973, the newly-founded company purchased the shuttered mill and Tembec was founded. A documentary covering the efforts of workers to form Tembec and reopen the mill, ''Témiskaming, Quebec'', was created by [[Martin Duckworth]] and released by the National Film Board in 1975.<ref>{{Citation |last=Canada |first=National Film Board of |title=Temiscaming, Québec |url=https://www.nfb.ca/film/temiscaming-quebec/ |language=en |access-date=2022-12-26}}</ref> In May 2017, it was announced that Tembec had agreed to a takeover offer by [[Rayonier Advanced Materials]] for CAD $320 million.<ref name = "rayonier">{{cite web|url=https://beta.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/industry-news/energy-and-resources/florida-based-rayonier-to-buy-quebecs-tembec/article35111139|title=Quebec's Tembec to be bought by Florida-based Rayonier|publisher=The Globe and Mail|date=May 25, 2017|accessdate=October 25, 2017}}</ref> In July, Rayonier's offer was raised to CAD $475 million.<ref name = "rayonier2">{{cite web|url=http://www.bnn.ca/rayonier-advanced-raises-offer-for-tembec-to-475-million-1.811903|title=Rayonier Advanced raises offer for Tembec to $475 million|publisher=BNN|date=July 24, 2017|accessdate=October 25, 2017}}</ref> The deal closed in November.<ref>{{Cite news|url=http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/sudbury/tembec-acquisition-rayonier-advanced-materials-1.4412484|title=New name and owner for Tembec|work=CBC News|access-date=2018-02-12|language=en}}</ref> On 8 January 2020, the company was fined $250,000 for the 25 May 2018 death of a worker in Chapleau, to which it had pled guilty. The accident had occurred six days prior to when, according to court proceedings, "Rayonier acquired the mill from Tembec Industries Inc., which operated the mill under the name Ryam Lumber, on May 31, 2018."
