==Personal background== Chevalier was born on 19 October 1962, in [[Washington, D.C.]]<ref>Sharp, Michael D. (2006). ''Popular Contemporary Writers'', Marshall Cavendish, p. 349. {{ISBN|978-0761476016}}.</ref> She is the daughter of Douglas and Helen (nΓ©e Werner) Chevalier. Her father was a photographer who worked with ''[[The Washington Post]]'' for more than 30 years.
