==Etymology== The word ''veld'' ({{IPA|af|fΙlt}}) comes from the [[Afrikaans language|Afrikaans]] word for "field". The etymological origin is older modern [[Dutch language|Dutch]] ''veldt'', a spelling that the [[History of Dutch orthography|Dutch abandoned]] in favour of ''veld'' during the 19th century,<ref>Winkel, Lammert Allard te.
