==Known problems== A firmware bug exists that can cause the IXUS 400 (and possibly other cameras with the same firmware) to display a "Memory card error" message after the camera has been in use for some time. Contrary to the message, there may not actually be anything wrong with the memory card. Descriptions of the fix recommend simultaneously removing the internal and external batteries to reset the camera.<ref>[http://willj.net/blog/2006/02/12/fixing-the-memory-card-error-on-the-canon-ixus-400s3/ Fixing the 'Memory card error' on the Canon IXUS 400/S3] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20070202013241/http://willj.net/blog/2006/02/12/fixing-the-memory-card-error-on-the-canon-ixus-400s3/ |date=2 February 2007 }} ''Will's Web Miscellany''</ref> Canon has acknowledged this issue and formerly repaired it free of charge.<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer?pageKeyCode=prdAdvDetail&docId=0901e0248004ccbf|title=Canon U.S.A., Inc. | Official Canon Service and Support, Canon drivers, Canon tech support and Canon warranty information.|access-date=18 October 2013|archive-date=19 October 2013|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131019073023/http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer?pageKeyCode=prdAdvDetail&docId=0901e0248004ccbf|url-status=live}}</ref> A number of camera models across several manufacturers used a Sony CCD that was prone to failure. Like all compacts with a [[zoom lens]], cameras in the IXUS range are susceptible to the "lens error" message if the lens is physically unable to zoom in or out. On Canon cameras, this manifests as the [[E18 error]] or the message "Lens error, restart camera" on more recent models.
