Inner Temple (together with the neighbouring [[Middle Temple]]) is also one of the few remaining [[Liberty (division)|liberties]], an old name for a type of administrative division. It geographically falls within the boundaries and liberties of the City, but can be thought of as an independent [[enclave]].
