Often the SPÖ in Meidling has also reached the absolute majority of votes. The ÖVP were the second strongest party in Meidling from 1946 until 1991, when the FPÖ became the second most popular party. In 1996, after a gain of 8.5%, the FPÖ won the majority of votes from the SPÖ. However, the FPÖ lost all of their gains at the elections in 2001, and even fell below the results of 1991. This decline continued in 2005, although to a lesser extent. The FPÖ barely received more votes than the ÖVP, and the FPÖ slid to a 15.5% vote share. The SPÖ in 2005 regained the absolute majority of votes. The Greens, who became increasingly popular from 1991 to 2005, were by 2005 only just behind the FPÖ and ÖVP. {| class="wikitable sortable" align="center" style="margin-left:1em;" |+ District representation 1991–2010<ref>[http://www.wien.gv.at/wahlinfo/grbv.htm Stadt Wien] {{webarchive |url=https://web.archive.org/web/20071227070937/http://www.wien.gv.at/wahlinfo/grbv.htm |date=27 December 2007 }}</ref> |---- style="background:#FBE5A9"<!--yellow/tan--> | Year | SPÖ | ÖVP | FPÖ | Grüne | LIF | [[BZÖ]] | Others |---- | align="center" |1991 | align="center" |50.9 | align="center" |17.2 | align="center" |21.5 | align="center" |7.7 | align="center" |n.k | align="center" |- | align="center" |2.7 |- | align="center" |1996 | align="center" |39.9 | align="center" |14.0 | align="center" |28.7 | align="center" |8.3 | align="center" |6.6 | align="center" |- | align="center" |2.5 |- | align="center" |2001 | align="center" |48.6 | align="center" |14.3 | align="center" |19.9 | align="center" |11.2 | align="center" |2.5 | align="center" |- | align="center" |3.5 |- | align="center" |2005 | align="center" |50.9 | align="center" |15.5 | align="center" |15.5 | align="center" |13.1 | align="center" |0.5 | align="center" |1.2 | align="center" |3.3 |- | align="center" |2010 | align="center" |44.4 | align="center" |11.4 | align="center" |25.4 | align="center" |13.0 | align="center" |0.7 | align="center" |1.1 | align="center" |3.9 |}
