Similarly, just like one can interpret the [[binomial distribution]] as the polynomial coefficients of <math>(p + q)^n</math> when expanded, one can interpret the multinomial distribution as the coefficients of <math>(p_1 + p_2 + p_3 + \cdots + p_k)^n</math> when expanded, noting that just the coefficients must sum up to 1.
