[[Bertolt Brecht]], from his opposition to the focus on the individual in expressionist art, began a collaborative method to play production, starting with his [[Man Equals Man]] project.<ref>Midgley 2000, p. 16</ref> This approach to theater-craft began to be known as "Brechtian" and the collective of writers and actors who he worked with are known as the "Brechtian collective".
