In 2005, the Akron Zips [[American football|football]] team won their first [[Mid-American Conference|MAC]] championship, allowing them to compete for the [[Motor City Bowl]], Akron's first [[Division I (NCAA)|Division I]]-A [[bowl game]] appearance where they lost to the [[Memphis Tigers]]. In soccer, the Akron Zips men's soccer team, ranked number one throughout the 2009 regular season, went undefeated, making it to the [[NCAA Men's Division I Soccer Championship]]. The following season they secured the 2010 "College Cup" against the [[Louisville Cardinals]].
