The typical daytime frequency is a train every 30 minutes with most trains extended beyond Exeter to and from {{stnlnk|Paignton}}. Trains only stop once an hour at St James Park, Polsloe Bridge, Exton and Lympstone Commando, the latter two being [[request stop]]s. Between 2006 and 2020 it operated using {{Brc|143}}, [[British Rail Class 150|150]] or [[British Rail Class 153|153]] [[diesel multiple unit]]s (DMUs) either singly or in multiple. Between December 2007 and December 2011 {{Brc|142}} DMUs were also used. Since 2020 it has been chiefly operated using [[British Rail Class 150|150]] or [[British Rail Class 166|166]] [[diesel multiple unit]]s as 3, or 4 car formations.{{citation needed|date=June 2023}}
