====Magnetic tape==== [[Magnetic tape data storage|Magnetic tape]] was for a long time the most commonly used medium for bulk data storage, backup, archiving, and interchange. While tape media itself has a low cost per space, [[tape drive]]s are typically dozens of times as expensive as [[hard disk drive]]s and [[optical drive]]s. Many tape formats have been proprietary or specific to certain markets like mainframes or a particular brand of personal computer.
