In peace, the commander-in-chief exercises his command through the [[Ministry of Defence (Bosnia and Herzegovina)|minister of defence]]. In war and in cases where the minister of defence is not fulfilling orders, the commander-in-chief exercises his command directly through the [[Chiefs of Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina|chief of Joint Staff]].
