===Borussia Dortmund=== After retirement, Sammer became head coach of [[Borussia Dortmund]] on 1 July 2000.<ref name=dortmundcoach>{{cite news|title=Matthias Sammer wird neuer Chef-Coach|url= https://www.kicker.de/matthias-sammer-wird-neuer-chef-coach-229542/artikel|access-date=30 January 2013|newspaper=kicker|date=30 May 2000|language=de}}</ref> Sammer led Borussia Dortmund to another Bundesliga title in [[2001β02 Bundesliga|2002]]. His team reached the [[2001β02 UEFA Cup]] [[2002 UEFA Cup Final|final]] the same year but lost 2β3 against [[Feyenoord Rotterdam|Feyenoord]]. Sammer was sacked at the end of the [[2003β04 Bundesliga|2003β04 season]] after Dortmund finished in sixth place.
