Its campus is located in Chengguan District, Lhasa, east of the city-centre. A forerunner was created in 1952 and the university was officially established in 1985, funded by the [[Government of the People's Republic of China|Chinese government]]. About 8000 students are enrolled at the university. Tibet University is a comprehensive university with the highest academic level in [[Tibet Autonomous Region]].
