=== Spain === Spain used to be one of the most religious countries in Europe, but secularization has progressed fast during the past few decades. Notably, the dictatorship of [[Francisco Franco]]'s core ideology was [[national Catholicism]]. However, agreements linked to the constitution of 1978 separated church and state. In 2001, 82% of Spaniards identified as Catholic but only half did in 2021. Only around 20% of Spaniards go to mass regularly and only 20% of weddings are taking place in a church (2019).
