==Personal life== Sutter was born on August 19, 1958, in [[Viking, Alberta]] approximately {{convert|121|km|mi|abbr=on}} east of [[Edmonton]], to Louis John Sutter (1930β2005)<ref>{{cite news |title=Louis Sutter of Famed NHL Family Dies |url=https://apnews.com/article/15d50c7b5217494c9a5844c611904e5e |access-date=March 18, 2021 |work=Associated Press |date=February 10, 2005 |location=Viking, Alberta}}</ref> and Grace Sutter ({{nee}} Sauers), both farmers. Darryl was the third of seven brothers and the second member of the Sutter family after his brother [[Brian Sutter|Brian]] to play in the NHL.
