===Hippodrome===
It was at the Pythian Games that prominent political leaders, such as [[Cleisthenes of Sicyon|Cleisthenes]], tyrant of [[Sikyon]], and [[Hiero I of Syracuse|Hieron]], tyrant of [[Syracuse, Sicily|Syracuse]], competed with their chariots. The hippodrome where these events took place was referred to by [[Pindar]],<ref>Pindar: Pythian 3</ref> and this monument was sought by archaeologists for over two centuries.
