In the [[New Zealand Police]], Inspector is the rank above [[Senior sergeant|Senior Sergeant]] and below [[Superintendent (police)|Superintendent]]. Inspectors are the first rank that require the [[Governor-General of New Zealand|Governor General]] to approve their appointment, this process is known as commissioning. Inspectors in the New Zealand Police are equivalent to [[Chief inspector|Chief Inspector]] in the [[Metropolitan Police]] or [[Captain]] in military ranks.
