Through 2022, [[Kentucky State Capitol#People who have lain in state in the Rotunda|23 people]] have lain in state at the [[Kentucky State Capitol|Kentucky Capitol]] building rotunda in Frankfort. This includes not only politicians, but also civilians. Kentucky-based [[Kentucky Fried Chicken]] (KFC) founder [[Colonel Harland Sanders]] would also be among those who received the honor of lying in state in the Kentucky Capitol Rotunda following his death in 1980.<ref>{{cite news| first=J.
