Histologic findings in ulcerative colitis includes: distortion of [[Intestinal crypt|crypt]] architecture, crypt abscesses, and inflammatory cells in the mucosa (lymphocytes, plasma cells, and granulocytes).<ref name="Feuerstein_UC" /> Unlike the transmural inflammation seen in Crohn's disease, the inflammation of ulcerative colitis is limited to the mucosa.<ref name="Feuerstein_UC" />
