=== Networking === * Starting with Windows 2000, the [[Server Message Block]] (SMB) protocol directly interfaces with [[TCP/IP]]. In Windows NT 4.0, SMB requires the [[NetBIOS over TCP/IP]] (NBT) protocol to work on a TCP/IP network. * Windows 2000 introduces a client-side DNS caching service. When the Windows DNS resolver receives a query response, the DNS resource record is added to a cache. When it queries the same resource record name again and it is found in the cache, then the resolver does not query the DNS server. This speeds up DNS query time and reduces network traffic.
