[[Congleton railway station]] was opened by the [[North Staffordshire Railway]] on 9 October 1848. The [[Biddulph Valley line]] used to terminate in the town. The railway ran from Stoke-on-Trent to [[Brunswick Wharf]], in the suburb of [[Buglawton]].
