About forty-five percent of sophomores, juniors, and seniors belong to fraternities or sororities at Colgate.<ref name="greek-faq">{{cite web|url=http://www.colgate.edu/campus-life/fraternities-and-sororities#faqs|title=Greek Life - Frequently Asked Questions|publisher=Colgate University|access-date=2014-09-09}}</ref> Students are not allowed to pledge until the fall semester of their sophomore year.<ref name="greek-faq" /> {{as of|2014}}, there are five fraternities ([[Beta Theta Pi]], [[Delta Upsilon]], [[Theta Chi]], [[Phi Delta Theta]], and [[Phi Kappa Tau]]) and three sororities ([[Gamma Phi Beta]], [[Delta Delta Delta]], and [[Kappa Kappa Gamma]]) that are active on campus.<ref name="greek-faq" />
