To mark the 10th anniversary of the [[Americans with Disabilities Act]], the [[Smithsonian Institution]] [[National Museum of American History]] opened an exhibition that examined the history of activism by people with disabilities, their friends, and families to secure the civil rights guaranteed to all Americans. Objects on view included the pen President [[George H. W. Bush]] used to sign the Act and one of the first ultralight [[wheelchair]]s. The exhibition was designed for maximum accessibility. Web-based kiosks - prototypes for a version that will eventually be available to museums and other cultural institutions - provided alternate formats to experience the exhibition.
