== Driver handling the car == Handling is a property of the car, but different characteristics will work well with different drivers. {{Further|Performance driving techniques}} === Familiarity === The more experience a person has with a car or type of car the more likely they will be to take full advantage of its handling characteristics under adverse conditions.<ref name="Perel">{{cite web|author=Michael Perel|date=July 1983|title=Vehicle Familiarity and Safety|url=https://ntl.bts.gov/lib/33000/33300/33359/33359.pdf|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170127231459/https://ntl.bts.gov/lib/33000/33300/33359/33359.pdf|archive-date=January 27, 2017|access-date=2017-08-16|publisher=[[National Highway Traffic Safety Administration]]|quote=In the wet surface maneuver, the unfamiliar group performed worse than the familiar group.}}</ref> === Position and support for the driver === * Having to withstand [[G-force|g forces]] in his/her arms interferes with a driver's precise steering. In a similar manner, a lack of support for the seating position of the driver may cause them to move around as the car undergoes rapid acceleration (through cornering, taking off or braking). This interferes with precise control inputs, making the car more difficult to control. * Being able to reach the controls easily is also an important consideration,<ref name="Perel" /> especially if a car is being driven hard. * In some circumstances, good support may allow a driver to retain some control, even after a minor accident or after the first stage of an accident.
