Switzerland's national railway company [[Swiss Federal Railways]] (SBB CFF FFS) as well as [[BLS AG]] and ''[[Südostbahn]]'' (SOB) offer both first- and second-class travel on all services, the only exception being the [[RegioExpress]] (RE) between {{rws|Neuchâtel}} and {{rws|Frasne}} (France). Most private railway operators also offer first class travel.

First class coaches typically have fewer seats per car and therefore more indivudual space. The seats are also more comfortable compared to the second class. Some first class coaches feature larger windows, such as in [[Panorama Express]] (PE) trains. Long-distance trains typically feature a [[dining car]] between the first and second class coaches.
