===Leadership=== Several officers who served under Cook went on to have distinguished careers. [[William Bligh]], Cook's [[sailing master]], was given command of {{HMS|Bounty||6}} in 1787 to sail to Tahiti and return with [[breadfruit]]. Bligh's [[Mutiny on the Bounty|crew mutinied]], and placed him and 18 others into an open boat 23 feet (7 m) long. Bligh successfully navigated 3618 miles (5822 km) to [[Timor]], arriving with all men alive.<ref>{{ cite book | url = http://www.adb.online.anu.edu.au/biogs/A010111b.htm | access-date = 28 May 2025 | first = A.
