===Killer app===

Sometimes a new and popular application arises that only runs on one [[Computing platform|platform]] that results in increasing the desirability of that platform. This is called a [[killer application]] or ''killer app'', coined in the late 1980s.<ref>{{cite magazine |last=Dvorak |first=John |author-link=John C.
