==College basketball career==
Cartwright played college basketball at the University of San Francisco and was a consensus second-team all-American in [[1977 NCAA Men's Basketball All-Americans|1977]] and [[1979 NCAA Men's Basketball All-Americans|1979]]. During the 1978/79 USF season, Cartwright played on one of the tallest starting lineups in collegiate history with the 7'1" Cartwright at center, the 7'0" [[Wallace Bryant]] at power forward, and the 6'10" [[Guy_Williams_(basketball)|Guy Williams]] at small forward. He graduated as the all-time leading scorer for the Dons, averaging 19.1 [[Point (basketball)|points]] and 10.2 [[Rebound (basketball)|rebounds]] per game.
