== Government ==
Chellaston formerly lay within the [[South Derbyshire (UK Parliament constituency)|South Derbyshire]] parliamentary constituency, but moved to [[Derby South]] following the electoral boundaries review of 2007. In 1961 the [[civil parish]] had a population of 3702.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://visionofbritain.org.uk/unit/10182207/cube/TOT_POP|title=Population statistics Chellaston CP/AP through time|publisher=[[A Vision of Britain through Time]]|accessdate=24 April 2024}}</ref> On 1 April 1968 the parish was abolished and merged with Derby, [[Elvaston, Derbyshire|Elvaston]], [[Aston upon Trent]] and [[Swarkestone]].<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/districts/shardlow.html|title=Shardlow Registration District|publisher=UKBMD|accessdate=24 April 2024}}</ref> It is now in the [[unparished area]] of Derby, in the Derby district.
