Chipilo was founded on October 2, 1882, by [[Italian immigration to Mexico|Italian immigrants]] from the northern region of [[Veneto]], although there were some people from [[Piedmont]] and [[Lombardy]] among the founders.<ref>{{cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=T9QI5HFWiIkC&q=italiani+di+zentla&pg=PT15 |title=Italiani a Chipilo |isbn=9783640611157 |language=Italian |last1=Keilhauer |first1=Hendrik |year=2010 }}</ref> They maintained their northern Italian culture.
